Ams AG, a leading provider of high-performance sensor solutions, today announced a new range of magnetic position sensor products with superior safety and diagnostic capabilities to help automotive OEMs achieve the highest level of safety in ISO26262 ASIL.

The AS5270A / B is ideal for automation applications such as brake, accelerator pedal, throttle, flip cover, steering wheel position, chassis suspension height, EGR, oil level measurement system, 2/4 wheel drive switching.

The new AS5270A and AS5270B system chips (SOC) are 0º to 360o omni-directional rotating magnetic position sensors with non-contact high resolution and absolute angle measurements. AS5270A / B was developed as SEooC (independent safety unit) equipment, in line with ISO26262 functional safety standards.

The AS5270A / B magnetic position sensor is capable of diagnosing the full data path on the chip and testing the entire device from the front of the Hall sensor to the DSP engine that converts the original measured values of the magnetic field strength into sinusoidal and cosine vectors, End interface and pin.

The AS5270A / B is a combination of dual-wafer stacks that conforms to the AEC-Q100 Grade-0 rating and is available in MLF-16 surface mount packages for highly reliable and redundant operation. Each wafer has a separate package pin, when a wafer on the electrical failure, to avoid affecting the other wafer circuit.

AS5270A / B internal 14-bit (0.22o) resolution front-end core Hall sensor array for true 12-bit output resolution. AS5270A provides analog output, AS5270B can provide digital SENT (single edge progressive transmission) and PWM (pulse width modulation) output, the customer can be programmed. Both devices support customers to program the limits of angle range, digital filtering, and output linearization. In addition, the AS5270B provides custom programming for different SENT and PWM interface protocols. For both devices, single-line programming can be achieved through the output pin, and built-in charge pump circuit, the programming without high voltage. Once the one-time programming (OTP) fuse is disconnected, the device will not be reprogrammed unintentionally or maliciously, thereby reducing vehicle safety risks.
The AS5270A / B position sensor operates in a 5 volt voltage environment and the power and output pins are protected up to 20 volts overvoltage. In addition, the power supply pin under the reverse bias of -20 volts, the same will be protected.
The AS5270A / B is not affected by spurious magnetic fields and therefore ensures high accuracy and repeatable measurements in the most noisy magnetic environment. This makes their performance very stable and reliable, while saving system costs, because they do not like the competitors of the magnetic position sensor IC as complex shielding.
