DIY Pong - Part 3 of 4 -The Ball

The ball is the tricky part. Here is what I have come up with so far.

The vertical motion of the ball is constrained by the floor and ceiling of the video screen. This is the easy part.

A triangular waveform generator is used to output an analog voltage. This is fed into the gate of an FET (field effect transistor) used as a variable resistor that determines the duration of a monostable multivibrator. This gives the ball its vertical motion between the top and bottom of the screen. The second half of the monostable multivibrator determines the height of the ball.
